Dr. Robert Sumner passed away in December 2016. The Biblical Evangelist newspaper is no longer being published and the ministry of Biblical Evangelism has ceased operation. The remaining inventory of his books and gospel tracts was transferred to The Baptist Tabernacle of Los Angeles and may be ordered here. Off the Cuff - Part 8 Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and his baby-killing buddies on the Appropriations Committee have passed on to the Senate a bill that would not only establish Obama’s reversal of “the Mexico City Policy” (no funds for abortions overseas), but make it very difficult for a future president to establish it again… A new poll shows 73% of Americans think the government has too much power. Even worse, 62% of Americans think the United States is a civilization in decline… Remember the insight of early President John Adams: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other"... John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, told the Chicago Tribune his office may refuse to process illegals sent by Arizona authorities. Senator Jeff Sessions summed up the response by saying it appeared the Obama administration was “nullifying existing law” and suggested of Morton, “If he feels he cannot enforce the law, he shouldn't have the job," noting he was “… not fulfilling the responsibilities of his office." Retired Army Colonel George Goetzke speaks of Washington politicians in one lump: "They are the most corrupt, self-serving, criminal, worthless group of subhuman misfits ever collected in one place in the history of mankind! That is a short and concise summary! Don't forget to remember that in November!"… The “traitor” Democrat Congressman from Arizona, who cheers every outside boycott of the state he “represents,” is handing out red, blue and yellow (state flag colors) bracelets to show solidarity against its new immigration law. Alas, even Chi Chi Rodriguez whom we’ve long admired as a professing Christian on the PGA circuit, is sporting one. (Say it isn’t so, Chi Chi!)... “Mr. Conservative” is a Liberal … when it comes to marriage anyway. Rush Limbaugh took his fourth wife recently. The bride, Kathryn Rogers, is easily young enough to be his daughter. Rush, who will be 60 his next birthday, married a girl in her early thirties. Previous trips to the altar were with Roxy Maxine McNeely, Michelle Sixta, and Marta Fitzgerald… According to a brought-to-light insider memo, Obama is planning to give the 12-18 million illegal immigrants amnesty by bypassing Congress. Would he do it? If he can, yes!… It looks like Congressman Charles “Hanky Panky” Rangel has finally come to the end of his road. The House ethics committee, after a two-year investigation, filed 13 “major” ethical charges against him covering 41 pages. The last House trial was for fellow Democrat James A. Traficant (OH). He was found guilty, kicked out of Congress, and spent time in the slammer… So what did the Democrats, controlling “the most ethical Congress in history” (sic) do? Well, for one thing, New Yorkers – including Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Governor David Patterson and candidate for governor Andrew Cuomo – threw a big fundraiser for him… Move over Charles Rangel, it looks like still another Democrat in the House will face ethics charges this fall. California’s Maxine Waters is facing serious charges… The next one to be investigated may be Congressman Harry Teague (D-NM, 2nd district). Editor Wesley Pruden was right in noting Mark Twain once observed that Congress is our only native criminal class… We all make mistakes, even your editor. Back in 1980 I stayed in Did you hear about the new Hollywood muckracker, The Kids Are All Right, a film in which two lesbian Sodomites use in vitro fertilization to produce daughters? When grown they seek their “donor” father and find he was the same for each. And that moron ends up having an affair with one of his daughters. Oh, did we mention that the director of the film is a lesbian Sodomite?… Whenever things in the economy are really bad, Obama smiles and says things could be worse. Dr. Charles W. Dunn, dean of Regent University's School of Government, says it’s time for him to quit blaming Bush and accept his own responsibility. He says, "The public increasingly [does] not trust his leadership because of a high level of promise with a low level of performance”… U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle (NV) has charged that Democrats in Have you noticed, some preachers are getting fat? A Obama has appointed a woman pastor to be his ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. She is Suzan Johnson Cook, a NYC pastor (sic); his appointee to the post, admittedly, lacks experience. Oh, well, Obama lacked experience as well and see what a great job he is doing!... For those who are into such stuff, the goalie on the American Gold Cup team, Tim Howard, is a born-again Christian (to us, hockey makes boxing and kickboxing look like Sunday school games. It is too, too bloody and brutal for us)... In only six months, First Baptist in Dallas raised $115 million of its $130-million goal toward revitalizing its downtown accommodations. Included is a 3,000-seat auditorium, new educational building, fountain plaza with a water tower topped by a cross, plus greatly enhanced parking. Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor, said groundbreaking took place in July... Well Obama got his way in his native (?) Kenya. Its new constitution supporting abortion, for which Obama's administration, according to Congressman Chris Smith (NJ), "illegally used U.S. funds" to help it pass, did indeed win by a majority of nearly 70 percent... Back in 2007, a freshman senator from In this area, columnist Thomas Sowell asks a pertinent question: “If we are creating an environment where only political generals can survive, what will that mean for America's ability to win military victories without massive casualty rates? Or to win military victories at all?”… A minority view: Hamid Karzai is president of Afghanistan. His spokesman, Waheed Omar, said Karzai thought McChrystal was “a person of great integrity," adding, "The president believes that Gen. McChrystal is the best commander that NATO and coalition forces have had in Afghanistan over the past nine years"… Our nomination for wickedest bum on the planet: Actor Warren Beatty. Why? His biography, Star, claims he has committed adultery with nearly 13,000 women. While he once wrote, produced and acted in a film, “Heaven Can Wait,” we note Hell really can. Paul put it, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7). Sodomites win in For the first time in the history of our country, a sitting president has used Father’s Day to promote sodomy. In his “official” Father’s Day proclamation, Obama said "nurturing families come in many forms" and he listed “two fathers” as one of them. Probably no one was surprised. We weren’t… This one won’t get off the ground. Daniel Raymondi, a member of the Quincy (MA) Board of Councilors, upset at local library users’ violations of its rules about viewing porn on the computers, suggested printing the names of violators in the press. Sounds good to me!... This is a church? A friend in Silly talk. Any talk is silly when based on erroneous data. Someone sent us a xerox sheet (origin unknown to us) headlined “Setting Deadlines for the Thief in the Night” by Kevin Mungons. We never heard of him, but we agree with what he was saying: it is foolish to try to set dates. But his first proof was William Miller, “who taught that Christ would return by March 21, 1844. Miller became famous (and rich) and later founded the Seventh Day Adventist church.” Not true. He has Miller’s first date off by a year. It did not make him rich (he was a farmer by occupation; maybe he had a good wheat crop that year). And he absolutely did not found the S-DA church. He had absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, when his 1844 date failed, he repudiated the whole thing, confessing he had erred… Someone else sent us a humorous definition of atheism: “The belief that there was nothing and nothing happened to nothing and then nothing magically exploded for no reason, creating everything and then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself for no reason whatsoever into self-replicating bits which then turned into dinosaurs. Makes perfect sense.” Yeah, it works for evolution, too!... Sen. Jim DeMint observed, “The federal government will soon be paying more in interest on the national debt than we spend on national defense.” Kayla Gerdes, age 18, lost control of her car (on drugs at the time) in Hempstead (NY) and ran over, killing, 69-year-old Rebecca Twine-Wright (mowing her lawn at the time!). She told police, “The thing that made me feel not so bad was she was old. I mean, 70 years is a long time to live.” Has she been listening to ObamaCare stuff?... Promise or threat? Obama said recently, “… next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country, I hope some of these folks who are hollering about deficits and debt step-up because I'm calling their bluff”... Here is what will happen if Congress doesn’t extend the Bush tax cuts by A breath of fresh air for a change – and from liberal The press secretary of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sodomite Drew Hammill, “married” (sic) his Sodomite partner, Jason Mida, in Maureen White, former national finance chair of the Democratic Party, was arrested for drunk driving. It seems she stopped her black Mercedes Benz 350 smack dab in an EZ-Pass lane and when police, cars honking behind her, asked if she needed help, responded, “Where do I go now.” To jail, of course (she pleaded guilty, paid the fine, and had her license suspended 90 days)… Obama’s Department of Labor recently issued new regulations relating to the Family Medical & Leave Act of 1993, passed under the What planet is this guy living on? "When I look back on what we've accomplished in the last 18 months – preventing the country sinking into a great depression, stabilizing the financial markets, saving the U.S. auto industry, oh, and, by the way, passing health care – I'd say that's a pretty good track record.” – Barack Obama… Is it true that Muslims, Scientologists, Christian Science, Amish and assorted religious kooks won’t have to pay anything for coverage under ObamaCare because it’s against their religion? That means you and I will be paying the full freight for their coverage? Now, that’s against my religion!... Two thieves pulled into the yard of Robert Wallace in Wheat Ridge (CO) and hooked his trailer to their truck. As they fled with his property, he fired two shots from his trusty gun. The crooks, illegals living in the country, were not charged! The 82-year-old Wallace has been charged with 12 felonies, including four indictments of attempted murder! (Four counts of attempted murder on two people? Don’t the police like him?)… Congressman Dave Camp of Michigan, top Republican on the House Committee on Ways and Means on ObamaCare: “[It] is simply bad for seniors, bad for business and bad for workers. No amount of town halls can change that fact”… Governmental “belt tightening” isn’t working. Obama’s cries for such don’t seem to work even for his own family. On their vacation to When a retired general criticized his commander-in-chief (Bush), some liberals wanted him to run for president. When an active general in the current theater of action criticized his commander-in-chief (Obama), he was fired (and the media praised the firing as a tough, heroic act). Actually, the latter general said what most of the rest of the country was thinking… While Obama uses every chance a television camera turns on near him to tell how wonderfully his stimulus has been working (something impossible to prove or even make seem feasible), a Pew Research Center poll reveals 55% of the American work force – well over half – have either been fired, had a salary cut, or experienced reduction in work hours… Columnist Deroy Murdock hit a homerun when he noted, “If pumping money into people’s pockets stimulates the economy, then vacuuming money from their pockets should depress the economy”… Well, I guess you could say Florida's governor Charlie Crist showed his true colors by vetoing a law the legislators in his state passed that would have permitted opting out of a provision in ObamaCare (as Arizona, Mississippi and Tennessee have done) to require coverage for abortion. His veto also canceled a provision requiring women seeking abortion in the first trimester to have an ultrasound first with a doctor’s explanation. Crist, who was facing almost certain defeat in his Republican run for the Senate, switched to "independent" to have a chance. Overriding the veto doesn't seem likely... An item in Baptist Press about “mixed marriages” (what the Bible calls the unequal yoke) said in the 18 years from 1988 to 2006 the percentage of mixed marriages in our country jumped from 15 to 25 percent. It was talking about the multimillion dollar hitching of Chelsea Clinton (Methodist) to Marc Mezvinsky (Jewish). In their case the couple apparently do not take their faith seriously since they were shacked up for some time prior to meeting at the altar… Cathy Lynn Grossman writing in USA Today said for those of ‘nominal’ faith a mixed marriage was no big deal, but those “serious about their faith, life-cycle decisions from baptism to burial will loom.” She noted “every rite of passage, sacred ritual and holy day will require negotiation.” In short, “battles.” Instead of the traditional wedding march, such couples should walk down the aisle to the tune “The Fight Is On!”… SEPTEMBER QUOTE OF THE MONTH: “What I see in America today is people painting their cabins while the ship goes down. Today in – Hilmar von Campe, former member of Hitler Youth, now a loyal American and founder, Institute for Truth & Freedom. OCTOBER QUOTE OF THE MONTH: “I have now disposed of all my property to my family. There is one thing more I wish I could give them and that is faith in Jesus Christ. If they had that and I had not given them one shilling, they would have been rich; and if they had not that, and I had given them all the world, they would be poor indeed.” – Patriot Patrick Henry, in his‘Last Will and Testament’ |
